Tim Parker Chrysler has been recognized by Chrysler Group LLC with and Environmental Leadership Award in the Dealership Category for the installation of a 2,000 square foot active solar panel system, the largest privately-owned solar array in the state of Arkansas.
For 15 years, Chrysler Group has recognized outstanding environmental achievement of employees, external partners, and dealers with the Environmental Leadership Award. Thirty-eight projects worldwide were submitted this year representing teams from manufacturing, engineering, facility management, Mopar, marketing dealerships, and other areas. A selection committee, consisting of high-ranking internal executives, selected the 10 winning and runner-up projects. "We have won many awards for sales and service, and we take great pride in this environmental award," said Tim Parker, dealer principal. "It is great for auto dealerships to be as green as possible." Tim Parker Chrysler, 4722 Central Ave., was nominated for the Environmental Leadership Award after placing in the Top 50 dealerships nationwide by the Chrysler Dealer ECO Program. The award was presented Sept. 20 at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Mich. "It's key to protect the environment for the future," Parker said. The dealership has had recycling processes in place for years, but its most recent initiative to reduce its carbon footprint and conserve natural resources was the installation of the solar panel system. The system prevents 26 tons per year of carbon dioxide emissions and saves 35,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Other contributions include multiprogram thermostats which are programmed seasonally to maximize energy conservation, photocell exterior light switches, down draft fans on high traffic exterior doors to reduce loss of hear or cool air, and zoned heating and cooling with scheduled maintenance. They replaced 62 exterior light bulbs at 1000 watts with 400 watt high output bulbs, installed cardboard recycle bin with weekly pickup, and installed three paper recycle bins with monthly pick up. The dealership also recycles all used oil, anti-freeze, batteries, scrap metal, plastics and tires. The annual quantities of recycled materials include 24,000 gallons of oil, 12,000 tires, 2,500 pounds of cardboard, and 43,000 pounds of paper.
This year's Environmental Initiatives Team includes Tim Parker, Steven Smith, Morgan Griffith, Patrick Attwater and all the employees. Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep will continue to communicate its environmental efforts with employees and the community, and encourages improvement in all these areas.
